Timna Park – Not Too Far From Eilat

Have you ever been to a place that looks like it is out of this planet?

Timna Park is one of those places. The geological formations there are so bizarre that you start asking yourself if you landed on Mars.

The park is only 17 miles (27 km) north of Eilat. I remember my high school trip to this site. Although at the time I was much more interested in the girls - rather than the view - this place still managed to impress me. Here is a picture so you can see what I’m referring to: Timna Park north of Eilat Israel

Thousands of years ago the Ancient Egyptians used this place as a copper mine. On the site you will find murals from those times describing the mining activity, and the camels carrying the copper. You can also watch a multimedia presentation about the history of the place.

If you want to get out of Eilat for a few hours - this place is a very good option.

Other activities include bike trails, archery and rock climbing. Oh, and there is a lake too. You can even paddle boat on it.
